THIS PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION ------- DOWNTOWN CULLMAN

Cullman's downtown is alive and well!  In downtown, you will find speciality shops offering everything from trendy clothing and shoes to home furnishings, restaurants and antiques.  You won't find blight and long-term vacancies here.  In fact, there have been a lot of changes in recent years including: Pedestrian lighting, underground utilities, streetscape projects, loft living and new construction.  Downtown Cullman has become a vibrant gathering place for young and old alike.

In 2011, the Cullman City Council established a set of guidelines for commercial facades in downtown and appointed a Design Review Board to oversee the project. This program allowed business owners to update their buildings, all while creating continuity and preservation of historic elements. Business owners were encouraged to apply for locally funded grants of $5,000 per visible facade. Over a four year period, this program funded approximately $425,000 in grants to downtown business owners. As a result of the Downtown Facade Program, over $10.9 million was invested in Cullman's downtown by property/business owners. In 2015, the Southern Economic Development Council presented the City of Cullman with the Community Economic Development Award for the "Revitalization and Redevelopment of Downtown Cullman.

The Facade Program has now closed, but the Downtown Redevelopment Authority of the City of Cullman is discussing ideas for a new incentive program to benefit the downtown.
