Fast Track for Industry

Fast Track for Industry is a joint partnership between Wallace State Community College and the Cullman County school systems.  This program offers high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to simultaneously enroll in secondary and postsecondary coursework on the campus of Wallace State.  The courses meet state requirements for high school graduation while also providing the general education requirements for the certificate and associate degree programs.  Students are enrolled full-time at the high school on the community college campus.  Schedules are determined based on the chosen program of study.

Tuition and fees for select programs are paid with WFD funds.  There is no cost to students participating in these select programs:

The Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) designs and conducts workforce training programs to provide technical education for Alabama workers and increase the quality of the labor pool in Alabama’s communities. AIDT’s services are available to any new or existing manufacturer that creates jobs through expansion or location of a plant in Alabama.

Alabama Technology Network (ATN)

One of the statewide ATN Centers of Excellence is located in Cullman. ATN provides hands-on technical and company-specific employee training to area businesses. These courses are offered free of charge or for a nominal fee. They are offered on the WSCC campus, the ATN office or at the company’s location. ATN will conduct detailed needs assessments, outline potential solutions and provide technical assistance to help you solve those problems.

Outline of Capabilities

These priorities are based on services ATN provides that allow companies to not only keep a safe and healthful workplace, but stay in complete compliance with regulatory agencies such as ADEM, OSHA and DOT:

PRIORTY #1: ES&H Regulatory Compliance Assessment –

• This Assessment includes a detailed walk-through assessment of the facility to determine compliance with OSHA safety and health regulations and environmental regulations for air, land, and water.
• Evaluation of safety and environmental procedures, permitting, employee practices, better business practices, and employee training programs.
• Examination of safety and environmental site record keeping for regulatory compliance.
• Conduct interviews with facility, staff and management to determine the level in which the facility is in regulatory compliance.
• Prepare a detailed report which will reference the specific regulatory standard from 29CFR OSHA and 40 CFR EPA guidelines, whether the facility is in compliance or not with current standards, and recommendations for corrective action.
• Includes two ATN personnel, travel and report presentation to management.

PRIORITY #2: OSHA Workshop –

• In order to assist in the health and safety implementation process, increase knowledge, provide a safe workplace and comply with federal regulations and rules, ATN will provide a safety workshop to selected employees of the facility. Specific tasks that will be performed as part of the course are identified as follows:
• ATN will provide instructor(s) and sufficient training materials for the OSHA Workshop. Training content will be customized using selective photographs from the facility.
• Training will cover guidelines set forth by OSHA Standards for General Industry in 29 CFR 1910 as a part of an OSHA 10 or 30 hr.:
• Topics generally covered are as follows:
• - OSHA Intro
• - Hazard Communication
• - Machine Guarding
• - Electrical Safety
• - Lockout Tagout
• - Walking and Working Surfaces
• This OSHA 10 or 30 hr. training will be conducted on the company premises.
• It takes approximately 16 hours (two days) to facilitate for a 10 hr. and 32 hours (four days) for a 30 hr., but can be broken out into ½ day segments to accommodate production constraints.
• The training is limited to no more than 15 per class and is facilitated by 2 ATN Instructors that have completed their authorization through the OSHA Outreach Training Program.
• The first days of the course will give an overview of the OSHA regulations through an OSHA 10 hr. or 30 hr. that are relevant to the facility and the second half of the workshop will cover a Hazard Recognition Workshop.
• Participants will reinforce the OSHA 10 hr. by identifying hazards in the plant and conducting root cause analysis and final mitigation group exercises.

PRIORITY #3: ISO 14001:2015 Transition Training –

• This one-day workshop will give participants a better understanding of what the ISO 14001:2015 standard’s requirements are and what changes have been made from the original 2004 standard. Not only will terms, definitions and concepts be addressed, but what key updates will be the hurdles for companies as they upgrade their Environmental Management System. Questions and discussion are encouraged throughout the class and there will be additional time at the end for follow up questions.
• The class will be taught by a lead auditor that has expertise in the environmental field and currently works for a leading certification body. A certificate will be presented to attendees at the conclusion of the class.

• In an effort to more effectively prepare workers for the next impending natural disaster that may impact our community, The Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training Program is a training program for Disaster Site Workers who provide skilled support services, (e.g. utility, demolition, debris removal, or heavy equipment operation) or site clean-up services in response to natural and man-made disasters. Specifically, it is recognized that all workers at disaster sites need to be aware of the differences between disaster sites and regular construction or demolition worksites and be able to inspect, don, and doff air-purifying respirators. Also, the program will make management and labor aware that pre-incident training is essential for ensuring disaster site worker safety and health.
• This course is facilitated by ATN personnel that are OSHA Outreach Trainers and have completed Course #5600 Disaster Site Worker Train the Trainer and is designated as an Authorized Disaster Site Trainer and can issue DSW 15 hour cards to participants.
